Resurecting the Old Fence

When we purchased, Sweetwater Lane Farm, long before we even considered opening a bed and breakfast, there was an old fence standing around the main pasture area that was showing significant signs of age.  During those initial years the thought of replacing it was all too large to even contemplate. So, we propped it up with boards and extra posts to stop it from falling over and pretended like we weren’t going to have to address it.

Every now and then Joce’s dad Dave would comment that we had to replace it and we’d roll our eyes and think yep, but how. Finally, Dave was sick of looking at it and worked out how to pound posts into our rocky soil. Over the course of 2 summer’s Dave (with a few helping hands) replaced the old rickety fence with our current post and beam beauty fence.

We were left with a pile of weathered lumber. Some went to the firepit and the rest sat waiting for a new purpose.

Before we opened the bed and breakfast we were lacking lots of furniture, from bed heads, to coffee tables, side tables and side boards were all needed.  Our dear sister (in law) Rachelle, had a knack for restoring old furniture and decided to take some sandpaper to the old fence boards and see how they looked. We were taken aback once the old paint came off to see beautifully weathered boards. So it was decided that we were going to build our own restored wood furniture. Although it was going to take longer than a trip to ikea the end result we knew would be worth it.

Now our Pemberton based Bed and breakfast features homemade recycled timber furtniture in each room all made from the old fence.  We hope you enjoy them during your stay as much as we enjoyed creating them.
