Things to do in Pemberton in the Fall

As the seasons change and the snowline starts to creep down from the mountain tops, the busy summer tourist season winds down. It is also one of the most enjoyable times to be in Pemberton as it offers the endless activities of summer without the pressure of the summer crowds. Here’s a few of the fun and adventurous things to do in Pemberton later in September and into October.

Watch the sockeye salmon spawn in the Birkenhead River. Spawning starts normally around the middle of September and runs into early October. On your way to Sweetwater Lane B&B you will cross over the Birkenhead River passing by one of the many great viewing locations. Ask us for info on some other locations while you are here.

Pemberton Fish Finder is running tours at this time of year. They tell me that the fishing for trout behind the sockeye run is a great option. They also have amazing heli-fishing days that get you into remote alpine lakes for some great trout fishing.

The hiking is all time in the fall. Cool days make for comfortable days up high. Endless options for high alpine views are all around the valley. Whether you go to the famous Joffre Lakes (only 25 minutes from our doorstep), Nairn Falls or one of the many ‘off the beaten path’ hikes on our door step you are sure to be impressed.  Ask us for advice on hikes in the area. We have done plenty and can point you in the right direction for your ability and adventure appetite. Oh and most of the bugs are gone by this time of year!

With the fall rains the mountain bike trails get a much needed drink. The dust of summer gets pushed down and the traction dial gets turned up! There is a passionate group of trail advocates in the area so there is an endless amount of riding options for you to explore. Pick up the PVTA map on arrival at the Pemberton Bike Co and go explore.

If you are into golf then fall is epic. Big Sky Golf Club and The Meadows at Pemberton are both open daily until October 9th and potentially longer if the summer weather holds out. Both courses offer great fall tee rates from October 1st onward. New this year at The Meadows is their 18 hole real turf mini putt course and foot golf course.  Great fun for the family and non-golfers in your group.

Horseback Riding tours run in the valley and surrounding areas through October weather permitting. Copper Cayuse offers great half and full day experiences in the valley at that time of year.

If this all sounds like a little bit too much like hard work, then there is no better thing to do than to bring  a book and sit by one of our fireplaces (indoor or outdoor) and sip on your favorite hot or cold beverage and watch the fall slide by.

Oh and staying in off peak season means discounted accommodation of course! Use the coupon code alpinehiking when booking on our website for an extra discount.

See you soon!
